The Cadenza Piano Method - Level A: Black Keys - Theory and Composition
The Level A Theory Book reinforces every concept introduced in the Level A Repertoire through short, approachable written activities. Students strengthen their understanding of rhythm, note values, and early musical symbols while building the habits of clear notation and careful listening.
Nearly every unit also includes a creative assignment in composition or improvisation, giving students a chance to apply new concepts at the keyboard and develop early musicianship skills.
This book follows the same traditional pre-reading framework as the repertoire but is modernized and simplified for today’s learners, making it equally effective for children, teens, and adults.
Activities include:
Hands and finger number recognition
Notation basics: Stem direction, clef drawing, bar lines, measures, brace, and double bar line
Rhythm: notation and composition using quarter, half, dotted-half, and whole notes and corresponding rests
4/4 and 3/4 time signature practice
Skipping-finger patterns (2 and 4)
Composition and improvisation prompts using black keys
