🎹 Piano Lab 🎹

Fun. Creative. Collaborative.

The Piano Lab offers a new way to structure lessons, blending one-on-one time, independent practice, technology, creativity, and peer collaboration. It’s the perfect blend of private and group lessons!

📅 How it Works

Each week, 3 students at a time spend 60 minutes in the Piano Lab. The class is divided into three rotating 20-minute stations:

  1. One-on-One Piano Lesson
    – One-on-one lesson time focused on personalized instruction in repertoire, technique, and performance. This is where the student's individual goals and needs are addressed.
    – Students receive targeted feedback, guidance on their pieces, and coaching on how to progress each week.

  2. Independent Practice Time
    – Students use this time to independently practice and apply what they’ve learned in their private lesson.
    – They'll work on specific exercises, pieces, or areas where they need extra focus. It’s an opportunity for them to practice independently while things are fresh, or to warm up before their one-on-one session begins.

  3. Creative Station
    — Students will have opportunities to create art and explore creative writing as it relates to music.
    — Students will play interactive music theory games and activities to reinforce concepts needed to grow as musicians.
    – Older students (10+) will explore composition and improvisation using Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), encouraging creativity and the understanding of music beyond the piano keys. The DAW station allows students to experiment with composition, layering sounds, and creating their own music in a fun and engaging way. This also reinforces concepts they’re learning in their private lessons.

🎶 Ensemble Opportunities

Collaborate and Perform: Within the Piano Lab, students have the opportunity to participate in ensemble work, performing in trios or duets with their fellow classmates which can lead to fun performances or recording projects. This helps students develop teamwork skills and gain confidence in performing with others.
Jam Sessions: Students will also have opportunities to join in jam sessions with their peers, where they can experiment, create, and learn how to collaborate musically.

🎹 Why Choose Piano Lab?

The Piano Lab combines the best of individual lessons with the excitement of group learning:

Personalized Learning: Each student gets focused attention during the private lesson time.
Creative Exploration: The creative station gives students a chance to use modern tools to enhance their musical creativity.
Ensemble Experience: Students learn the value of working together and gain experience making music with others
Built-in Practice Time: Eliminates the struggle of home practice by making it part of their lesson routine.
Increased Motivation: Rotating stations keep students engaged, while variety helps them grow as musicians.

🎵 Who is Piano Lab for?

Piano Lab is for every kind of piano student - from the seriously committed to the casual learners. It’s a great addition to private lessons for serious students who want extra one-on-one time, the chance to collaborate with peers, and the opportunity to explore music technology in creative ways. It’s also perfect for casual learners or busy students who enjoy piano but struggle to find time to practice at home—Piano Lab can function as their weekly musical commitment, offering built-in practice and structured learning in a fun, low-pressure setting.

✨ Pick Your Plan

Students have three enrollment options depending on their level of commitment:
Piano Lab only is a low-pressure option for students who love piano but have full schedules and limited time to practice at home. It allows them to stay connected to piano, enjoy structured weekly music time, and continue growing—without the expectations of private lessons.
Private lessons only is for students who are committed to regular home practice and enjoy one-on-one instruction. This option is perfect for those who are serious about progressing and prefer focused, personalized lessons to reach their goals.
Private lessons + Piano Lab is for dedicated students who are committed to regular practice and want to enhance their learning with peer collaboration, creative use of technology, and a little extra one-on-one time.

🌟 Personalized Recommendation

Based on what I know about your child’s goals, needs, and practice habits, I’ll recommend the best learning path for them. However, the final decision is entirely up to you and your student—what matters most is that you both feel confident and excited about the journey ahead! Selections can be made on the enrollment form below.

🗓️ Scheduling Information

Scheduling will happen in segments this year. Private lessons will be scheduled first to ensure each student gets the personalized attention they need. After private lessons are set, we’ll schedule Piano Lab hours around them. Piano Lab sign-ups will be grouped by age—elementary, middle, and high school—so students can collaborate and learn with peers at similar levels. You'll have the flexibility to choose a time that works best for your family within these groupings.
